French Toast Fried Chicken Sandwich

  • 1 cup buttermilk (Can be substituted with milk)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 slices thick-cut bread (Challah or brioche recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • To taste Maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar
  • Fresh fruit (Such as strawberries or blueberries)
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine the buttermilk, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken breasts and marinate for at least one hour, or overnight if possible.
  2. Prepare the French Toast: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, making sure to coat both sides well.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Take the marinated chicken out of the buttermilk. Dredge each piece in flour, then dip it back into the buttermilk, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs. Heat oil in a fryer or a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per side.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Cook the French toast slices until golden brown on both sides. To assemble, layer a piece of French toast, add a piece of fried chicken, then top with another slice of French toast.
  5. Serve: Drizzle with maple syrup and sprinkle powdered sugar on top. Add fresh fruit and whipped cream as desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, add spices like cayenne or hot sauce to the chicken marinade. Use thicker slices of bread for a more substantial sandwich. Make sure your oil is hot enough when frying the chicken to maintain crispiness.
